Gene Robinson, pastor of Spirit of Truth Urban Ministry, said the Ford Foundation routed $51 million to activist networks opposing President Trump, even as his policies supported U.S. auto manufacturing and decreased reliance on Chinese EV technology, a move Robinson described as a betrayal of American manufacturing interests.
"What a stab in the back by Ford," said Robinson, Senior Pastor. "The Ford Foundation is shown routing tens of millions of dollars as much as $51 million into activist and protest-aligned networks that mobilized against President Trump. Trump renegotiated trade deals that favored domestic production. He cut regulatory burdens that helped automakers stay competitive."
According to Robinson, he posted on X with funding charts illustrating the Ford Foundation's allocation of significant funds to networks mobilizing against Trump. He emphasized the foundation's origins in wealth derived from U.S. manufacturing while contrasting it with Trump's efforts to revitalize the auto sector through favorable trade deals and reduced regulations.
From the Road Ford reported that Ford Motor Company's $3.5 billion battery plant in Marshall, Michigan, is set to begin production of lithium iron phosphate cells in 2026 using technology licensed from China's Contemporary Amperex Technology Co., Limited (CATL). The facility will support Ford's midsize electric truck and energy storage solutions amid state incentives totaling $1.7 billion. Michigan lawmakers are currently debating the partnership's implications for local jobs and national security.
According to Reuters, U.S. automakers like Ford continue partnerships with Chinese firms despite policies promoting supply chain resilience. The Trump administration imposed tariffs on Chinese imports and renegotiated NAFTA into the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA) to protect domestic manufacturing and auto sector jobs. Discussions between Ford and Geely for manufacturing and technology collaborations, along with expansions using CATL technology, highlight ongoing reliance as CEO Jim Farley acknowledges Chinese EV makers as a competitive threat.
Robinson is Senior Pastor of Spirit of Truth Urban Ministry in Buffalo, New York, and CEO of JA Hauser and Rebecca Rose Sobriety Services.
