The House of Representatives has passed S.1383, known as the SAVE America Act. Committee on House Administration Chairman Bryan Steil (WI-01) commented on the passage of the bill.
“American elections should be for American citizens only. Voter ID and proof of citizenship are commonsense principles. That’s why they’re popular with the American people,” said Chairman Bryan Steil. “These reforms will restore Americans’ faith in our elections and ensure it remains easy to vote, but hard to cheat.”
The Committee on House Administration holds oversight authority over federal election policy. The committee also manages operations related to federal elections, congressional contests, and Capitol security according to its official website. It is a standing committee within the U.S. House of Representatives and is involved in joint committees on Library and Printing as stated by official sources.
Historically, the committee has been responsible for major legislative actions such as passing the Help America Vote Act in 2002, which provided more than $3 billion for improvements to voting systems with goals including increased accessibility and reduced fraud according to committee records. In response to significant events like September 11, 2001, and January 6, 2021, the committee enhanced security measures at the Capitol as detailed by their official site.
The SAVE America Act is part of ongoing efforts by the committee to address election integrity and maintain public trust in electoral processes.
