House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform Chairman James Comer announced on Mar. 13 that the committee will hold a markup session on Wednesday, March 18 at 10:00am Eastern Time to consider several bills focused on protecting taxpayers and improving government transparency.

The planned legislation aims to ensure federal funds are used efficiently and responsibly, addressing concerns about waste, fraud, and accountability in government operations. The session will be open to the public and press, with a livestream available online.

Comer said, “The American people deserve a government that operates efficiently and effectively, yet too often it has fallen short of that standard. The House Oversight Committee is working to protect hardworking taxpayers and strengthen the transparency and performance of federal agencies. I look forward to considering legislation that will protect hardworking taxpayers and ensure federal agencies operate with greater accountability and transparency.”

Among the bills up for consideration are the Federal Program Integrity and Fraud Prevention Act of 2025, which would bar individuals convicted of certain felonies from participating in federal contracts or grants; the Bonuses for Cost-Cutters Act of 2025, which expands awards for identifying wasteful spending; the Billion Dollar Boondoggle Act of 2025, requiring annual reporting on delayed or over-budget projects; the Fiscal Contingency Preparedness Act mandating fiscal strength assessments; the Stop Secret Spending Act of 2025 aimed at enhancing spending transparency; a bill establishing new requirements for settlement agreement disclosures; the Special District Fairness and Accessibility Act clarifying special district eligibility for federal aid; a bill repealing certain automated traffic enforcement provisions in Washington D.C.; and legislation directing a unique ZIP Code designation for Highland City, Utah.

The markup is scheduled to take place in HVC-210 at the U.S. Capitol Visitors Center.
