HUD charges Wisconsin landlords over refusal of tenant's disability accommodation

HUD announces new members for manufactured housing committee

The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) announced today the appointment of five new members to serve on the Manufactured Housing Consensus Committee (MHCC), a Federal Advisory Committee. These appointments maintain the MHCC at 21 members authorized under statute to ensure the committee can continue to play its critical role in advising HUD’s Office of Manufactured Housing Programs on recommendations to the standards.

Biden administration cancels $1.2 billion in student loan debt for public service workers

The Biden administration has approved the cancellation of $1.2 billion in student loan debt for 35,000 borrowers working in public service roles such as nurses, teachers, first responders, and law enforcement officers. Since President Joe Biden took office in January 2021, a total of 4.76 million borrowers have received an average of more than $35,000 in debt relief.


EPA orders Excell Air Filters to halt sales of unregistered pesticide products

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has issued an order to Excell Air Filters, located at 600 Union Street, Ashland, Ohio, to immediately cease the sale and distribution of two products: “Antimicrobial Filter” and “Allergen Filter.” These products were found to contain unregistered pesticides, a violation of the Federal Insecticide, Fungicide, and Rodenticide Act (FIFRA).

DaVita agrees to $34M settlement over alleged illegal kickbacks

DaVita Inc., headquartered in Denver, Colorado, has agreed to pay $34,487,390 to resolve allegations that it violated the False Claims Act by paying kickbacks to induce referrals to DaVita Rx, a former subsidiary providing pharmacy services for dialysis patients. The company is also accused of paying kickbacks to nephrologists and vascular access physicians to induce patient referrals to its dialysis centers.

Justice Department files lawsuit against Illinois landlord for alleged tenant harassment

The Justice Department filed a lawsuit today against Michael J. DeWitte of Washington, Illinois, for allegedly sexually harassing female tenants and housing applicants in violation of the Fair Housing Act. DeWitte has managed residential rental properties in Peoria, Illinois, and other central Illinois counties since at least 2002.

Mexican wolf captured near Flagstaff for monitoring

A female Mexican wolf was captured north of Interstate 40 on U.S. Forest Service lands near Flagstaff, Arizona, last week. The wolf, identified as F2979, was collared and released back into the wild to aid in locating and capturing another wolf known to be in the area.
