Washington, D.C. - House Energy and Commerce Committee Republican Leader Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-WA) released the following statement about how President Biden’s energy policies have emboldened Russia.

“For America to be a diplomatic power, we must be a military power. To be a military power, America has to be an economic power. It’s all connected, and President Joe Biden is undermining it all with his radical agenda to shut down American energy and embolden our enemies like Russia.

“Especially given Russia’s invasion in Ukraine, America must flip the switch and aggressively promote our energy jobs, production, and exports. Now is not the time to be shutting down American pipelines, keeping resources in the ground, and making the world more dependent on Russian oil and natural gas.

“If the President is serious about countering Russia and being tough on Putin, he would work with us to ensure America leads as the world’s number one energy producer. I will soon be introducing legislation called the American Energy Independence from Russia Act that would require the President to make an energy security plan that encourages America’s oil production to offset Russian imports. House Republicans on Energy and Commerce are ready to pass solutions that unleash energy production across the board including for oil and natural gas."

NOTE: Energy and Commerce Committee Republicans are leading on solutions that flip the switch and unleash American energy production. These solutions are part of their Securing Cleaner American Energy Agenda and include:

* H.R. ____, The American Energy Independence from Russia Act - Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-WA)
