Senate Votes 86-12 to Proceed to Consideration of Gulf of Mexico Energy Security Act

Washington, D.C. - The Senate voted 86-12 this morning to proceed to consideration of S. 3711, the Gulf of Mexico Energy Security Act. The Senate will begin consideration of the bill this afternoon.

Chairman Domenici’s statement:

“I am delighted by this vote. I think it reflects the Senate’s recognition that this focused, bipartisan energy bill is the most important thing we can do in the near-term to ease our energy supplies and stabilize energy prices. I want to thank my cosponsors for their hard work and my colleagues for their support and their commitment to addressing these energy prices. I look forward to beginning debate on this important bill. I remain optimistic that we can pass this legislation before we recess."
