Oversight Committee Comes Together to Examine the Ongoing Battle Against Hate 75 Years After the Holocaust

The following press release was published by the House Committee on Oversight and Reform on Jan. 30, 2020. It is reproduced in full below.

This week, Rep. Carolyn B. Maloney, the Chairwoman of the Committee on Oversight and Reform, held a hearing entitled, “75 Years After the Holocaust: The Ongoing Battle Against Hate," in recognition of International Holocaust Remembrance Day and 75 years since the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau.

This was the latest in a series of hearings being held by the Committee during the 116th Congress to combat bigotry, discrimination, and hate of all kinds.

TAKEAWAYS

* 75 years after the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau, we remember the Holocaust in order to help combat bigotry, hate, and violence of all kinds today.

* There has been a sinister increase in hate crimes recently not only against Jewish communities, but against African-Americans, Muslims, immigrants, and others.

* This week, the House of Representatives overwhelmingly passed Chairwoman Maloney’s “Never Again Education Act," a bipartisan bill to support Holocaust education across the country.

* The Oversight Committee will continue its ongoing investigation of the threat of white supremacy in the coming weeks and months with additional hearings on: voter suppression in minority communities; anti-Muslim discrimination; anti-immigrant actions; and issues facing LGBTQ communities.
