WASHINGTON, DC - Today, Ways and Means Committee Chairman Richard E. Neal (D-MA) released the following statement after the Ways and Means Committee passed the Consumer Protections Against Surprise Medical Bills Act:
“Today, our Committee came together and bipartisanly passed pro-patient legislation that will protect Americans from the devastation of surprise medical bills. At times of poor health, the last thing Americans should worry about is whether or not they’ll be able to afford the care they need. The Ways and Means legislation adds much-needed transparency and protections for patients, ensuring they know the cost of treatments up front and that they aren’t saddled with the responsibility of resolving billing disputes.
“I greatly appreciate Ranking Member Brady’s partnership in crafting this bill. After many months of collaboration, our diligence has resulted in an exceptionally strong piece of legislation for patients. I look forward to our continued teamwork as we take the steps necessary to advance our proposal through the House."
The Consumer Protections Against Surprise Medical Bills Act passed out of the Ways and Means Committee by a unanimous voice vote.
