Biden admin nominates Yohannes Abraham as Ambassador Representative Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the Association of Southeast Asian Nations

On May 13, 2022, President Joe Biden announced his intention to nominate Yohannes Abraham as U.S. Ambassador Representative to the Association of Southeast Asian Nations. On May 17, 2022, the U.S. Senate Foreign Relations Committee received the nomination.

Yohannes Abraham currently serves as Deputy Assistant to the President, Chief of Staff, and Executive Secretary of the National Security Council. Before this, Abraham served as the Executive Director of the Biden-Harris Transition. He managed day-to-day operations and oversaw the national security, economic, and domestic policy and personnel teams. During the Obama-Biden administration, Abraham served as Deputy Assistant to the President and Senior Advisor to the National Economic Council, and Chief of Staff for the Office of Public Engagement and Intergovernmental Affairs. 

Abraham has also worked in the Vanguard Group’s global investment unit and served on the Harvard Kennedy School of Government faculty. A native of Springfield, Virginia, Abraham holds a B.A. from Yale College and an MBA from Harvard Business School.
