MEDIA ADVISORY: McCaul to Join Bipartisan Press Conference to Call for Release of Trevor Reed and Paul Whelan

Washington, DC -Tomorrow, July 29, 2021, at 10:30AM, House Foreign Affairs Committee Lead Republican Michael McCaul (R-TX), Reps. August Pfluger (R-TX), Haley Stevens (D-MI), Tim Walberg (R-MI), and Bill Keating (D-MA) will hold a bipartisan press conference with members of the Reed and Whelan families as well as members of the House Foreign Affairs Committee.

Trevor Reed, a Texas resident and former U.S. Marine, was sentenced to nine years in a Russian prison for a crime he did not commit. Trevor has been detained for 712 days, since Aug. 16, 2019. He was recently transferred to a Russian prison camp after being diagnosed with COVID-19 this spring.

Paul Whelan of Novi, Michigan, has been wrongfully detained in a Russian prison for 944 days, since Dec 28, 2018. He is currently being held in solitary confinement and has not been heard from in over 3 weeks. His whereabouts and reason for confinement are unknown.
