WASHINGTON - U.S. Senator Claire McCaskill, the top Democrat on the Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, issued the following statement after Chairman Ron Johnson (R-Wis.) moved a planned public committee hearing to a classified briefing from Department of Homeland Security officials on President Trump’s controversial recent Executive Orders:
“I disagree with the decision to hold this briefing behind closed doors. The public has a right to understand how these orders were written, who was involved, and how they are being implemented-and the answers to these questions do not involve classified material."
McCaskill’s staff will be prepared to provide information to the press related to the non-classified portions of the closed-door briefing after its conclusion.
