Washington, D.C. - Today, Rep. Carolyn B. Maloney, Chairwoman of the Committee on Oversight and Reform, and Rep. Raúl Grijalva, lead sponsor of the LGBTQI+ Data Inclusion Act, announced that more than 200 advocacy organizations-including the Congressional LGBTQ+ Equality Caucus, the Human Rights Campaign, the Center for American Progress, the National Center for Transgender Equality, interACT Advocates for Intersex Youth, the Whitman-Walker Institute, The Trevor Project, GLSEN, and more-have endorsed the LGBTQI+ Data Inclusion Act. The Members released the following statements:
“This week, House Democrats will commemorate Pride Month by voting on the historic LGBTQI+ Data Inclusion Act," said Chairwoman Maloney. “This historic legislation will provide the federal government with the data we’ve long needed to ensure that LGBTQI+ people are seen and supported in our federal policy. The overwhelming support for this bill shows just how needed it is. I am proud of the part the Oversight Committee played in getting this bill to the House floor and grateful to Rep. Grijalva for his leadership and partnership in this effort."
“When our government and communities lack data about LGBTQI+ people, it’s difficult to address needs or provide resources for issues that are important to this community," said Rep. Grijalva. “This effort would not have been possible without the insight and support from the more than 200 advocacy organizations that have endorsed and helped shape this legislation and the leadership of Chair Maloney. Together, we are going to pass the LGBTQI+ Data Inclusion Act."
The LGBTQI+ Data Inclusion Act would expand the collection of data pertaining to America’s LGBTQI+ communities by requiring that federal agencies incorporate methods to gather demographic information on sexual orientation, gender identity, and variations in sex characteristics into data collection efforts. Under the LGBTQI+ Data Inclusion Act, responses to inquiries would be voluntary, and data would be subject to robust confidentiality and privacy standards.
This week, the House will vote on the LGBTQI+ Data Inclusion Act to commemorate Pride Month.

On June 25, 2021, Rep. Grijalva reintroduced the LGBTQI+ Data Inclusion Act with more than 70 original cosponsors.
On June 14, 2022, the Committee on Oversight and Reform passed the LGBTQI+ Data Inclusion Act.
On June 21, 2022, the Biden-Harris Administration issued a Statement of Administration Policy in strong support of the LGBTQI+ Data Inclusion Act.
