U.S. Congressman Bob Good (R-VA) recently called for an investigation of China's influence on America's college campuses, and their purchases of properties in the U.S., among other concerns, after he was asked what the members of the Select Committee on China should focus on once it is formed.
"We must investigate and address China’s influence and investment on our college campuses, their purchase of U.S. properties, their theft of our intellectual property, their involvement in our elections, their manipulation of Big Tech for nefarious purposes and more," Good said in a statement on Jan. 17. "American taxpayer dollars should never be used to fund China’s communist propaganda. I introduced a bill last Congress to ensure the CCP (Chinese Communist Party) does not receive even one cent of federal money and I plan to reintroduce it this Congress."
Good represents the 5th District of Virginia and is serving his first term in the 117th United States Congress, according to his website. He is a member of the House Freedom Caucus and has been named to the Education and Labor Committee and the Budget Committee.
House lawmakers voted 365-65 to create the select committee on China, Politico reported. Rep. Mike Gallagher (R-WI) was selected to chair the Select Committee on China. The committee will consist of members from both parties.
The tasks of the committee are to investigate and submit policy recommendations related to the Chinese Communist Party’s economic, technological and security initiatives, The Hill reported.
After his appointment to chairman of the Select Committee, Gallagher said, "The greatest threat to the United States is the Chinese Communist Party. The CCP continues to commit genocide, obscure the origins of the coronavirus pandemic, steal hundreds of billions of dollars worth of American intellectual property and threaten Taiwan. The Select Committee on China will push back in bipartisan fashion before it’s too late. Even in divided government, we have an opportunity to build a united front against CCP aggression."
