Sen. Katie Boyd Britt (R-Ala.) called the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) America’s greatest threat and has supported and co-sponsored legislation to hold the CCP accountable for recent actions.
“There is no doubt that the CCP is our greatest geopolitical and national security threat, and everything they do is as our adversary. I’ll continue to fight to put hardworking Alabamians first while protecting our homeland,” Britt said in a Feb. 24 tweet.
Britt is the ranking member of the Homeland Security subcommittee of the Senate Committee on Appropriations. She also is a member of the National Security and International Trade and Finance Subcommittee of the Senate Committee on Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs.
Britt has led efforts in the Senate to hold the CCP accountable for actions seen as aggressive, such as the recent incursion into U.S. airspace by a Chinese surveillance balloon. Britt joined Senate colleagues from both parties in supporting Senate Resolution 66 (S.Res.66), which condemns the use of the balloon by the People's Republic of China (PRC) over the U.S. as "a brazen violation" of U.S. sovereignty.
“The spy balloon was only the latest, most visible instance in an ongoing trend of aggressive behavior by the Chinese Communist Party,” Britt said in a Feb. 24 report by the Alabama Political Reporter (APR).
Britt has co-sponsored three additional pieces of legislation: S.68 the Foreign Adversary Risk Management (FARM) Act, which seeks to crack down on the CCP’s ownership of US farmland and agricultural companies; S.442, the Cutting-off Communist Profiteers (CCP) Act, which would prohibit former U.S. presidential appointees from knowingly aiding, representing, or advising the CCP or Chinese military companies; and S.370, the Protecting America from Spies Act, which would allow the Department of State to deny visas to individuals who have committed acts of espionage or intellectual property theft against the U.S.
Britt said the FBI opens two new counterintelligence cases against China every day, according to APR.
"From stealing our intellectual property and spying on our children through TikTok, to buying up American farmland and engaging in unfair trade practices that undercut Alabama steel makers and shrimpers, we must hold the CCP accountable," she said, the APR reports.
"We accomplish this through strength, not continued weakness, which is why I’m committed to modernizing our defense and intelligence capabilities," Britt said. "I’ll continue to fight to put hardworking Alabamians first while protecting our homeland.”
