The House Select Committee on the Chinese Communist Party has assured Taiwan that, irrespective of the outcome of the United States presidential election, the US will continue to support their independence from China. This declaration was made during a meeting between Taiwan's President Tsai Ing-wen and Representative Mike Gallagher on February 22 in Taiwan.

"Time and again Taiwan has shown the world how to stand up to the CCP's bullying and not only survive but thrive," stated Chairman Gallagher. "We are thrilled to be in Taipei to show our support for our friends in Taiwan, President-Elect Lai and the newly elected Legislative Yuan. The United States stands with Taiwan. By promoting deeper ties between our leaders and our economies we can enhance peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait."

According to a press release by the Select Committee on the CCP, this gesture aimed at reinforcing their commitment to Taiwan as tensions have been escalating rapidly between China and the United States. The purpose of this visit was to deepen relations between Taiwan and the United States, demonstrating US commitment to democracy for this independent nation.

CNN reported that despite never having historically controlled Taiwan, the Chinese Communist Party claims it as part of their territory. China has also vowed to reclaim the island by any means necessary, including force if required. Congress plays a crucial role in maintaining relations between Taiwan and the United States at an unofficial level. This year, funding has been approved by the United States to enhance defense capabilities of this self-governed island. Tsai Ing-wen is set to conclude her tenure as Taiwanese president in May when newly elected Lai Chain-te will assume office as her successor.
