U.S. Senator Jerry Moran, chairman of the Senate Committee on Veterans’ Affairs, addressed the Senate prior to the confirmation vote for retired Army Captain Sam Brown as Under Secretary for Memorial Affairs at the Department of Veterans Affairs.
“Captain Sam Brown understands the sacrifices made every day by the men and women in the U.S. military and their families, and he is well-equipped to undertake this significant responsibly,” said Sen. Moran. “Through our conversations and his past military experience, Captain Brown has demonstrated that he is prepared to lead the National Cemetery Administration in honoring and remembering those who have paid the ultimate sacrifice. I am grateful to Captain Brown for his service to our country, for his sacrifice and now for his willingness to continue serving our country in this new capacity.”
Captain Brown is a graduate of West Point, served in combat in Afghanistan, and is a husband and father of three. During testimony before the Senate Committee on Veterans’ Affairs, he discussed his military service, injuries sustained while deployed in Afghanistan, and how these experiences will guide him as Under Secretary for Memorial Affairs.
The Senate confirmed Captain Brown’s nomination following these remarks.
