The Schumer Shutdown has become the longest government shutdown in U.S. history, according to a statement released by House Budget Committee Chairman Jodey Arrington. Arrington criticized Senate Democrats for their role in extending the shutdown and argued that Americans are facing increasing hardship as a result.
"Today marks a dark milestone as Democrats set a new record for the longest government shutdown in American history. The American people are paying the price for Leader Schumer and Senate Democrats’ partisan games, and the pain is only getting worse.
"House Republicans passed a clean continuing resolution on September 19th to fund the government. Senate Democrats have since voted 14 times to block it, keeping our troops, seniors, and vulnerable families hostage to their demands for $1.5 trillion on woke and wasteful policies like health care for illegal immigrants, Green New Deal mandates, and welfare without work for able-bodied adults.
"Democrats claim they shut down the government to help Americans, but the truth is their political games are hurting working families and stalling our economy. Every day this continues, the damage deepens, not just to our economy, but to millions of Americans in this country.
"Republicans have already voted to keep the government open. It is past time for Democrats to stop leveraging the American people to achieve their partisan, woke and wasteful agenda and end this shutdown."
The ongoing shutdown has led to growing concerns about its effects on federal workers and public services across the nation.
