Senate Judiciary Committee advances nominations for key Justice Department roles

ORGANIZATIONS IN THIS STORY

The Senate Judiciary Committee has moved forward with several key nominations, including one for Assistant Attorney General and others for federal judgeships and U.S. Attorney positions in Mississippi, Louisiana, New Hampshire, and Kansas.

Tysen Duva was advanced to be Assistant Attorney General for the Criminal Division by a 12-10 vote. The committee also approved Robert P. Chamberlin as United States District Judge for the Northern District of Mississippi, William J. Crain as United States District Judge for the Eastern District of Louisiana, and James D. Maxwell II as United States District Judge for the Northern District of Mississippi—all by votes of 12-10.

Alexander C. Van Hook was nominated to serve as United States District Judge for the Western District of Louisiana, receiving a 16-6 vote in favor.

For U.S. Attorney positions, Erin Creegan was advanced to serve in the District of New Hampshire with an 18-4 vote. Ryan Anthony Kriegshauser was nominated as U.S. Attorney for the District of Kansas by a 12-10 vote. James Kruger and Scott Leary were advanced to serve as U.S. Attorneys for the Southern and Northern districts of Mississippi by votes of 12-10 and 17-5 respectively.

The committee provided access to watch its executive business meeting online and made available Chairman Chuck Grassley’s opening statement from that session.
