The House of Representatives has passed S. 284, the Congressional Award Program Reauthorization Act. The legislation continues support for a program that recognizes young people between the ages of 14 and 23 who set and achieve personal goals that benefit themselves and their communities.

Education and Workforce Committee Chairman Tim Walberg (R-MI) commented on the passage, stating: “The Congressional Award Act encourages young people between the ages of 14 and 23 to challenge themselves in ways that not only benefit themselves, but also the communities they live in. The Congressional Award has empowered over 500,000 participants nationwide and is the highest honor Congress bestows on America’s youth. By reauthorizing this program, we honor the countless hours of hard work and dedication of so many past and present participants.”

The Congressional Award Program has recognized more than half a million participants across the United States since its inception.
