The Aerospace Industries Association (AIA) has appointed Katy Summerlin Baron as Senior Director of Policy Communications. The announcement was made on January 27, 2026, from the organization’s headquarters in Arlington, Virginia.
Baron brings experience from her previous roles at NASA Headquarters, Maxar Technologies, ROKK Solutions, and the U.S. House of Representatives. She has directed communications strategies supporting national space and science initiatives and major policy priorities. Baron holds a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism with a minor in Political Science from James Madison University.
Eric Fanning, President and CEO of AIA, said: “Katy’s experience working with the press, in industry, on the Hill, and in government — and her ability to connect those audiences — will help us tell the story of a sector essential to America’s security, economic strength, and technological leadership. We’re excited to bring her energy to the team.”
The AIA represents companies across the aerospace and defense sector and advocates for policies that support national security and economic growth while backing manufacturers and suppliers. The association also offers networking opportunities through councils and committees as well as access to over 1,400 industry standards. It is involved in promoting diversity and inclusion within the industry according to its official website.
Additionally, AIA influences U.S. policy on issues such as aviation safety, space innovation, workforce development, international business ethics, and compliance. The organization has led the International Forum on Business Ethical Conduct since 2010. Established in 1919, AIA has played a role in advancements ranging from early aviation efforts to current space ventures.
