The Aerospace Industries Association (AIA) has released a new white paper titled "Accelerating and Improving Decision Making: A Vision for Agentic AI in U.S. Defense‑Industrial Collaboration." The document discusses how the use of Agentic AI could change the way the Pentagon works with the defense industrial base to address national security issues.
Agentic AI refers to systems that are proactive, goal-oriented, and capable of planning, acting, and adapting under human oversight. According to the white paper, these systems could help reduce administrative tasks, speed up processes, and improve strategic results within the defense sector.
Tim White, AIA Vice President of Engineering and Technology, stated: “The future of defense decision-making is goal-oriented and proactive AI. It is a collaborative model in which humans remain in control, empowered by AI systems that operate as trusted partners. Agentic AI is about augmenting human capabilities and judgment and giving leaders better insight and focus on the decisions that matter most.”
The white paper highlights that successful integration of Agentic AI requires strong governance. This includes clear accountability measures, transparent decision-making processes, thorough validation procedures, and adherence to current federal standards for artificial intelligence and cybersecurity.
AIA operates within the aerospace and defense sector, supporting manufacturers and suppliers. The association shapes U.S. policy on issues such as national security, aviation safety, space innovation, workforce development, diversity initiatives, business ethics compliance, and international standards. More information can be found on their official website.
