U.S. House Railroads Chairman to Hold Roundtable in Springfield on Impacts of Rail Transportation in Illinois

The Chairman of the U.S. House Subcommittee on Railroads, Pipelines, and Hazardous Materials, U.S. Rep. Jeff Denham (R-CA), will hold a roundtable discussion in Springfield next Tuesday focusing on the impacts of freight and passenger rail transportation in Illinois. U.S. Rep. Rodney Davis (R-IL), a member of the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure, will join Chairman Denham for Tuesday’s meeting.

Illinois is a major railroad hub for the Nation, and rail transportation is central to the communities, towns, and local economies throughout the State. The Subcommittee will explore the impacts of railroads on the State and localities in Illinois.

In addition to Reps. Denham and Davis, elected officials from Central Illinois and representatives of the Illinois Department of Transportation, a freight railroad, a rail shipper, and academia will participate.

The roundtable, entitled “Impact of Rail in Illinois," will take place at 9:00 a.m. (CST) on Tuesday, June 11, 2013 in room 212, Capitol Building, 301 S. 2nd St., Springfield, IL 62706.

The roundtable is open to the press.
